The trick that changes what we knew about lip balms

The “win win” hydration.

When it comes to our beauty routine, there are many tips and tricks to get the most out of our products.

We know that we should not use retinol without sun protection, how to properly make a scrub that will not injure our skin, etc.

But the lip balm? It is always a simple, formal process that comes as second nature. You take the lip balm out of your pocket and apply it to your lips. However, it turns out there is a small change you can make to its implementation: Wet lips.

Just as it’s recommended to apply certain serums like hyaluronic acid to wet skin to ensure better absorption, the same can be said for our lip product. Makes sense, right?

Why should we put lip balm on wet lips?

As many lip product formulas focus on combating dehydration, it’s likely that their ingredient list includes glycerin, hyaluronic acid and shea butter – all of which act like a sponge by attracting water to the surface of our skin.

For the same reasons experts recommend applying our moisturizer when we get out of the shower, lip balm will likewise lock in moisture better if it’s applied over a wet base.

Doesn’t saliva dry them out?

Technically yes. Saliva contains enzymes that will actually lead to extra dryness. So next time drink a glass of water before applying lip balm on your lips. Win win hydration.
