The dam was built in 2004 by EYDAP, in order to stop the course of the current waters of the three streams in the area.
They are located in the wider area of the newly built settlement of Rapentosa, in eastern Attica, a little north of the large Dionysos Marble quarry and are an oasis of coolness near the capital.
Of course, the truth is that in order to meet them one has to follow a fairly difficult road climb for a 4×4 car… but their image will really compensate.
Initially, the dam of the Rapentosa stream is placed, while a little further north, its homonymous waterfall dominates, two of the well-hidden secrets of Attica that are slowly becoming known, giving us beautiful natural images.
To reach the waterfall there are two different dirt tracks. The first route is from Stamata while the second and more difficult route is through Rapentosa.
And while the route is somewhat bare due to the great fire that broke out in Grammatico several years earlier, the area of the stream where the waterfall is located looks like an oasis since the hybrid sycamore species withstood the fire and managed to keep their image unchanged.
So well hidden among dense vegetation, it is not immediately visible, except through the sound of water falling from a height of 10 meters and testifying its location to all those who are looking for it.
As for the dam, it was built in 2004 by EYDAP, in order to stop the course of the current waters of the three streams in the area (Rapentosa stream, Vathia Houni stream and Vaia Dardiza stream), mainly during the winter months with heavy rainfall.
Before its construction, the stream continued its descent to Marathon crossing agricultural lands and ended up in the sea.
Its length reaches 145 meters and its height rises to 39 meters, while with its construction a lake of 1,265,000 cubic meters of water was created which in winter with the many rainfalls is truly impressive.
