Vinicius Junior is called a monkey in a TV show in Spain

Brazilian and Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior was called a monkey by a journalist on a Spanish TV show. The topic under discussion was the Brazilian’s celebrations after the goals.

On the Chiringuito Show, live, journalist Pedro Bravo was excited to give his opinion. “You have to respect the opposite, if you want to dance samba, go do it in Brazil. Here [na Espanha] you have to respect your fellow professionals and stop acting like a monkey”, fired Bravo before being restrained by another participant (watch below).

With the negative repercussion, Bravo apologized on a social network. “I want to clarify that the expression ‘macaquice’ that I misused to describe Vinicius’ goal celebration dance was done metaphorically (doing stupid things). As my intention was not to offend anyone, I sincerely apologize. I’m sorry.”

Vini Junior received the affection of player friends like Neymar and Raphinha and said he will not stop dancing and being happy.

This type of discrimination has already happened to names like Neymar and Daniel Alves, who even ate a banana that was thrown at him in 2014, also in Spain. The number of recorded cases of racism in Brazilian football has also resumed the upward trend, previously reduced, in part, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2021 Racial Discrimination in Football Report pointed to 64 cases that occurred last year in the country. If you also include episodes of LGBTphobia, machismo and xenophobia, there are 109.

In cases of racism, as of 2017, the number went from 43 to 47 (2018), then to 70 (2019). In 2020, there were 31. In 2021, with a good part of the season still held with stadiums without an audience, the number reached 64.
