Hellenic Cinema Center for Martha Karagiannis: She was the beauty that was never marketed as such

by

“Martha Karagianni was one of the great ladies of Greek cinema in the years of its commercial heyday, when great actors, presumably important comedians of the theater, portrayed characters recognizable to the general public on the screen,” the announcement states.

“Martha Karagianni never seriously cared about becoming a screen idol. She was the beauty that was never marketed as such. She imposed her presence with her temperament and her explosive vitality, but also with the innocence of an impudent beauty, which was familiar and accessible” says the Hellenic Cinema Center (EKK) saying goodbye to Martha Karagiannis.

“Martha Karagianni was one of the great ladies of Greek cinema during its commercial heyday, when great actors, presumably important theater comedians, portrayed characters recognizable to the general public on the screen.

Martha Karagianni, having already started her artistic career in dance, radiated her greatest brilliance in comedies and popular musicals by Yiannis Dalianidis, in which the cream of the crop of Finos Film’s protagonists paraded. She usually embodied the girl from the poor neighborhood in cinematographic frames of modern Greek ethnography, in which color, music and dance numbers and an optimistic mood brought a new breath.

Martha Karagianni never seriously cared about becoming a screen idol. She was the beauty that was never marketed as such. She imposed her presence with her temperament and her explosive vitality, but also with the innocence of an impudent beauty, which was familiar and accessible.

The Hellenic Film Center expresses its deepest condolences to her relatives”, says the Greek Film Center in its condolence message.
