Lula’s Live: ‘I came here to say that I am together with him’, says Valesca Popozuda

by

Valesca Popozuda spoke about the importance of funk artists taking a political stand against the current government. The statement was made behind the scenes of the festive event promoted by the campaign of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), this Monday (26), São Paulo.

The funkeira said that she is a woman born and raised on the periphery like the other singers of the rhythm and it is from this culture that everyone makes their living. “We have to seek to position ourselves, we cannot stand on the fence and let it go unnoticed, because we are the ones who suffer”, she said.

Popozuda said that, despite being famous, she is not rich and needs to work to earn a living. She highlighted that she is not at Lula’s campaign event to “give a look” and seek the spotlight, and recalled that she has supported him for a long time. “I came here to say that I am together with him as I said back in 2002”.

Valesca posed for photos prancing that part of her anatomy that earned her the nickname, glued to a life-size cardboard squid. It was the most instagrammable point of the night, second only to the photos next to the real candidate, of course. She also sang a snippet of “Funk do Lula” that she made in 2008, when she met him in Complexo do Alemão, in Rio de Janeiro. “Lula belongs to the people, listen to what he says, the favela has a lot of people who just want to be happy”, sang the funkeira.
