Marcos Uchôa has 850 votes even after withdrawing candidacy: ‘Don’t vote for me’

by

Journalist Marcos Uchôa, 64, who in August had withdrawn his candidacy for the post of federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro, ended up receiving 850 votes even so. Before the election, he found out that his name was still on the ballot box and asked them not to vote for him.

“I don’t know it was a mistake, I don’t know what it was. They didn’t take my name away at the TRE. Please don’t vote for me. My candidate for federal deputy is Alexandre Saraiva. it’s mine, it’s the party’s [PSB]. Unfortunately they kept my name,” she said in a video.

The amount of votes, however, would not be enough for an election. Uchôa debuted on Globo in 1987. In 34 years at the station, he covered several important events. There were ten Olympic Games, eight World Cups and also eight wars. He was also a correspondent in London and Paris.

In September, in an interview with Folha, the journalist said that he resigned from his post because he had not received from the president of the PSB in Rio de Janeiro, Alessandro Molon, the funds he was entitled to to invest in his campaign.

“Since May I’ve been asking Molon [quanto receberia]. Not to know the right number, but the order of magnitude to plan me. May passed, June passed, July passed. On Sunday, August 28, not only did I not have the money, but I also lacked information [de quando receberia]. I realized it was too late. It was like they wanted me to play the final 15 minutes of the game.”
