#HairForFreedom: Actresses cut lock of hair in support of protests in Iran

by

Actresses and the author of the soap opera “Orfãos da Terra” (Globo), which showed Syrian refugees living in Brazil, shared a video on Tuesday (11) in support of the protests in Iran. In the video, shared on social networks with the hashtag Hair For Freedom (hair for freedom, in free translation), actresses Eliane Giardini, Paula Burlamaqui and Carol Castro appear cutting a lock of their own hair.

Hair For Freedom references Mahsa Amini, who died at age 22 while detained by Iranian moral police. She was accused of wearing the veil inappropriately, which has been banned there since the 1979 Revolution, which opened up space for the theocratic regime of the ayatollahs.

Images of women cutting their hair have been circulating around the world and have become a symbol of protest and solidarity with women in Iran. Before the Brazilians, stars like Juliette Binoche, Marion Cotillard and Isabelle Huppert appear making the same gesture of protest.

“We are women, actresses, author. We acted in the soap opera ‘Orfãos da Terra’ and many of our characters wore the hijab out of obligation. wrote in the caption the Brazilians

“Our locks symbolize our admiration and respect for everyone who fights for the freedom of life and bodies. Mahsa Amin present!”, ends the message in the caption of the video, which had a text explaining what happened to the young Iranian.

Several famous actors liked and commented on the publication, such as the Syrian-born Brazilian actor Kaysar Dadour, who fled Syria due to the civil war in the country. After participating in Big Brother Brasil, he managed to bring his family to Brazil.

“What wonderful women! Too bad humanity and religious precepts made the path to God something completely brutal and perverted”, commented the actor Cassio Scapin.
