During the 60s, the dramatic war film by Finos Film, “The teacher with the blonde hair”, with the unforgettable Aliki Vougiouklakis and Dimitris Papamichail, was filmed in Makrynitsa.
Built on the western slopes of Pelion, with a wonderful view of the Pagasitiko gulf, but also of Volos, it is considered the most famous “balcony” of Northern Greece.
The reason for the Makrynitsa, one of the most touristic mountain villages in Greece, which in fact keeps the Pelion architecture unchanged and brings to mind images of another era.
The two- and three-story buildings of the settlement with thick stone walls, wood-carved shutters, rich wood-carved decorated ceilings and stone roofs, are considered the trademark of the place, while at the same time giving a nostalgic constant to the ancient mountain of the Centaurs. The harmonious combination of its special architecture with nature and the unique view it offers is what is responsible for the ranking of Makrynitsa in one of the most favorite destinations of thousands of visitors.
Impressive guesthouses, warm cafes, traditional restaurants with delicious local dishes, taverns and numerous shops with local products and tourist items, complete the image of today, giving the Makrynitsa of yesterday the prestige and glamor it deserves.
