British Vogue honors Queen Elizabeth with an empty purple cover

by

The cover will be a deep ‘royal’ purple and at the bottom will be the words ‘Her Majesty, the Queen’ in capitals, along with the words ‘1926-2022’.

The cover for the November issue of the British magazine “Vogue” will be different.

Not pictured, but in bold royal purple, it will be a tribute to Queen Elizabeth.

Only at the bottom will there be the words in capital letters ‘Her Majesty, the Queen’, together with the inscription ‘1926-2022’.

The release of these covers is a tradition for the magazine. Since the first issue of British Vogue (1916) it is the third time that it has honored the death of a king in this special way. In 1936 it commemorated the death of King George V and in 1952 of King George VI.

The magazine explained the choice to use the color purple: “In the 16th century, Elizabeth I allowed only her inner circle to wear purple, while Elizabeth II, during her coronation at Westminster Abbey, wore, among among others, a velvet cape 22 meters long and the imperial crown, in purple color.
