After saying that he decided to abandon the treatment against brain cancer, Oscar Schmidt manifested this Saturday (15) to explain that he had been discharged when he chose to interrupt the chemotherapy sessions. The former basketball player said that continuing treatment was a recommendation from his doctors, but that he is cured.
The brother of Globo presenter Tadeu Schmidt reinforced that he did not give up performing chemotherapy sessions. In a statement, the greatest player in the history of Brazilian basketball informed that he is in good health and that he will only undergo routine medical follow-up, since his situation can be considered as in remission. Oscar has been accompanied by oncologist Olavo Feher since 2013.
“During the period after the tumor was removed, Oscar performed routine exams regularly, including MRIs, closely monitoring the evolution of the treatment. Recently, the medical team informed that it would no longer be necessary to undergo the sessions, since, for a long time, there is no sign of the disease in his body. Given this scenario, Oscar recently ended the treatment with chemo sessions and did not ‘give up’ the treatment, as announced, being discharged”, says the note.
Oscar took the opportunity to thank the affection of fans and friends. “If there was anything good in this misunderstanding, it was seeing the affection of all of you towards me. Rest assured: I didn’t give up on this fight. I would never do that. I won this battle.”
