The Civil Police begins to hear witnesses this Thursday (20th) about the racist attacks on singer Seu Jorge during a concert at a traditional club in Porto Alegre (RS), on October 14. The singer has not yet been summoned to testify, according to his press office.

The president of Grêmio Náutico União, Paulo José Kolberg Bing, who had a leaked audio saying that the singer was not dressed properly for the show, will be the first witness heard by delegate Andréa Mattos, head of the Police Station for Combating Intolerance (DPCI). ).

“The idea is to listen to everyone, including people who were working on the day. Let’s see if we can identify the authors. We want to conclude this and other cases always in a short time, but we depend on several factors”, said the delegate.

The delegate said that she gave the club a deadline to provide the images and identify the organizing team. After that, she will review the videos, verify what was said and hear from more witnesses. Mattos also asked people who witnessed the acts to manifest themselves at the police station or via WhatsApp (51) 98595-5034.

Despite the investigations, the delegate says that from what she has seen in the videos that circulate on social networks, there was racist practice in the presentation, but that possible arrests are more difficult to happen. “Obviously the stain on the criminal record of whoever commits this act is heavy.”

Grêmio Náutico União, in an official note, said that it would investigate the case and “if the practice of a racist act is proven, those involved will be held accountable”, adding that it respects Seu Jorge and that it repudiates racism.

THE CASE

Seu Jorge was harassed and suffered racist attacks from the audience of a show held at the traditional club. Witnesses reported on the networks that the demonstrations began shortly before the end of the show, when the singer called on stage a teenage musician, black, who played the cavaquinho.

Seu Jorge then made a brief speech against lowering the age of criminal responsibility, in which he mentioned the death of young black people in the favelas. Soon after leaving the stage, “the avalanche of boos began, with the screams of a tramp, a bastard, and the expected myth, myth, myth”, described one of the people present at the show. Monkey imitations were also heard from the audience.

On Monday (17), the singer spoke for the first time about the racism he suffered. He shared a nine-minute video on Instagram, with the flag of Rio Grande do Sul in the background, explaining what happened and that he did not recognize the city he learned to love. “Actually what I witnessed was a lot of gratuitous hate and a lot of racist rudeness.”

Seu Jorge said that he is even more united in the fight against racism, misery, lack of opportunities in Brazil that affect black people. “We will be in the fight together denouncing and fighting all types of typification of our people and responding with excellence, preparation, courage, wisdom and diplomacy. We will never, ever bow to racism and intolerance whatever it may be.”
