The “Big Laundry” is spread twice a year, specifically on the third Thursday of October and the third Thursday of March, simultaneously in 118 countries in the world, and every year there is a topic that is decided centrally, in France.
A “laundry” different from the others, with the colors of their dreams, is laid out by students from the morning in the forecourt of the French Institute of Thessaloniki, thus participating at the same time with about half a million people in 118 countries around the world in the international cultural action “Big laundry”, inspired and started in 2006 by the French artist Joëlle Gonthier.
The call addressed for the 4th consecutive year by the French School, in collaboration with the French Institute of Thessaloniki, gives the opportunity to all those who want to give color to their dreams to participate in the action with an artistic creation – for example a photograph ( digital or not), a drawing, a painting or a collage, which will be exhibited for one day (today) in the external space of the Institute, hanging on the ropes of the “Great Laundry”.
“This year’s theme is “The color of my dreams” (La couleur de mes rêves) and we are very happy to have many entries from many schools in Thessaloniki but also from other schools in Greece (Athens, Patras, Florina etc. etc.), who sent us the children’s creations”, explains Dora Ioakeimidis, responsible for educational cooperation at the French Institute of Thessaloniki, to the Athenian/Macedonian News Agency.
The “Big Laundry” is spread twice a year, specifically on the third Thursday of October and the third Thursday of March, simultaneously in 118 countries in the world, and every year there is a topic that is decided centrally, in France. “Over half a million people participate every time and the logic is: we find a space accessible to everyone and place the ropes so that people can hang out their (visual) “laundry” with the pegs we give them. The only limitation is that the work – in whatever form – must be in A4 dimensions, light enough to be able to stand on the rope and respect the theme”, says Ms. Ioakeimidis.
This year, the ‘Big Laundry’, themed ‘The color of my dreams’, is colourful, with illustrations that vary. “The paintings have many and intense colors. Landscapes, animals, sports and professions dominate, while there are also some “darker” ones that make an impression, such as small explosions of color on a darker background”, notes the responsible educational cooperation of the French Institute, who calls us as at 6 pm let’s go by the French Institute to spread our own “laundry” in whatever color our dreams are!
