Actor Kevin Spacey, 63, was acquitted of the sexual assault charge made by actor Anthony Rapp on Thursday (20). After the jury found the verdict in favor of the actor, his lawyers went public to publish their pronouncement.

“He is deeply grateful to this particular jury. This was a highly educated group of six women and five men, all but one college graduate and most graduates. Their verdict was swift and decisive. Justice was served. today”, says the text.

“Mr Spacey is grateful to live in a country where citizens are entitled to a trial by impartial jurors who make their decision based on evidence rather than rumors or social media.” .

The result was given after the jury, which evaluated the case in New York, considered that there was not enough evidence for the alleged crime. With the decision, the protagonist of “House of Cards” will no longer need to pay a compensation of US$ 40 million (about R$ 208 million) for moral damages to Rapp. The trial lasted about nine hours.

Rapp claims he was sexually assaulted in 1986, aged 14. He claims he was at Spacey’s house when the drunk actor picked him up and put him on a bed. Spacey reportedly lay down next to the young man, put his arms around him and pressed his crotch against the teenager’s body.

Despite the victory, Spacey is still involved in other lawsuits. He was ordered to pay US$31 million (about R$162 million) to MRC, the producer of “House of Cards”, because of the abuse allegations he received. Spacey also faces charges in the UK for allegedly sexually abusing three men.
