Alec Baldwin Remembers Halyna Hutchins One Year After ‘Rust’ Set Tragedy

by

Alec Baldwin paid tribute to Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer who was shot dead by a gun used by the actor during a rehearsal of scenes for the movie Rust. The episode took place on October 21 of last year and the actor decided to set the date: “One year ago today”, wrote Baldwin in the post of a photo of the Ukrainian journalist.

The post received comments from American celebrities and also from Brazilian actress Tássia Camargo. Everyone mourned the tragedy that happened on the film set at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico region, United States. Baldwin was holding a .45 caliber Long Colt revolver when a bullet was fired and struck the director. That same bullet went through Halyna and also caught director Joel Souza, who was injured. She was rescued and transferred by plane to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, but did not survive.

Shortly after the episode, investigations began. Baldwin even claimed that he had not pulled the trigger on the gun, but an FBI analysis confirmed that the trigger had been pulled. Two months ago, Baldwin gave an interview to CNN, revealing that he does not believe anyone will be held criminally responsible for the case and lamented, “One person died, and it was preventable. It was so unnecessary. I think about it every day of my life.” The actor blamed gunsmith and prop assistant Hannah Gutierrez Reed and assistant director Dave Halls for the tragedy.

New Mexico police continue to work on the case, while the prosecution has not yet decided whether to indict any of the people involved in the accident. Matthew Hutchins, Halyna’s widower, had filed a civil lawsuit against Baldwin and the other producers of the film. He even criticized the intention to resume filming the work. But recently, the director also entered into an agreement with Baldwin. In addition to receiving an undisclosed amount of damages, Matthew won the role of executive producer on “Rust.” Filming will resume in January 2023.
