Buckingham Palace has announced that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, will be by Preet Chandy’s side in her new mission. This is about the British Army physiotherapist and doctor who will attempt to cross Antarctica alone and unsupervised on a journey of more than 1,610 km.

Last winter, she made history by becoming the first black woman to reach the South Pole alone, covering 1,127 km in 40 days, 7 hours and 3 minutes, as reported by the New York Times. In recognition of her achievement she was honored by Queen Elizabeth.

Now, Chandi plans to cross the frozen continent in 75 days. It will overcome temperatures of -53 degrees and winds of up to 96 km/h, carrying 120 kg of equipment in one sled.

“My goal for this mission has always been to inspire people to push their limits. I want to make people believe that nothing is impossible,” Chandi said in a statement, adding. “It is an absolute privilege to have the Princess of Wales as my patron.”
