After speeches by Cássia Kis, Globo repudiates discrimination

Globo released a position in defense of diversity after actress Cássia Kis, 64, stated, in an interview with journalist Leda Nagle, that families composed of LGBTQIA+ people represent a threat and destroy human life.

“Globo has a firm commitment to diversity and inclusion and repudiates any form of discrimination”, says the text sent by the press office to the newspaper O Globo.

Cássia is on the air in the soap opera “Travessia”, a soap opera by Glória Perez, playing the character Cidália. In the interview, she stated that “there is no longer the man and the woman, but it is the woman with the woman and the man with the man”.

“What’s behind it? Destroying the family, without a doubt. But destroying the family alone? No. Destroying human life. Because, as far as I know, man with man doesn’t give children, woman with woman doesn’t either. son. So, how are we going to do it?”, he asked.

The homophobic speech provoked reactions among artists. Xuxa, 59, for example, said she was disappointed with the actress.

“As long as the world exists, there will be children to be adopted, because in a relationship between a man and a woman, a pregnancy is not always desired”, declared the presenter.

Actress Lúcia Veríssimo published a photo on Instagram kissing actress Cássia Kis.

“My #tbt today will be in honor of Cassia Kis. May we continue without hypocrisy and false moralism. Yes, that kiss was real. Yes, it’s Cassia Kis who is kissing me”, he wrote.

One of the daughters of singer Daniela Mercury and businesswoman Malu Verçosa sued the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro against Cássia Kis. Bachelor and graduate student in law, Márcia Verçosa de Sá Mercury accuses the artist of LGBTphobia.

“You speak like the one represented [Cássia Kis] should not be seen only as polemics or something minor. They should be named for what they are: LGBTphobic discrimination, a crime,” she argued.
