American author Anne Rice, who has written fantasy and vampire novels, including “Interview with a Vampire”, a book that is considered to have renewed this genre, died yesterday, Saturday, at the age of 80, her family announced .

“During her last hours, I sat next to her in her hospital bed, impressed by her achievements and courage,” her son, Christopher Rice, wrote on his Facebook page.

He clarified that his mother died from the complications of a stroke.

Her book “Interview with a Vampire”, published in 1976 and renewing the genre of vampire novels, was made into a movie by Neil Jordan in 1994 starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

Another of her works, “Queen of the Damned”, was made into a movie in 2002 by Michael Reimer.

“The pain of our family is immense. “As a mother, her support for me was unconditional – she taught me to embrace my dreams, to reject conformity and to defy the dark voices of fear and doubt,” her son wrote.

“As a writer, he taught me to defy the limits of the genre and to indulge in my obsessive passions,” he added.
