Netflix’s new documentary series, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, premiered in February, and everyone agreed that it was the most creepy story ever released on the platform. This month, Crime Scene is trying to outdo itself and bring to light the story of a Times Square serial killer.

Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer comes as a Christmas present for fans of detective stories
In its new cycle, the documentary series sheds light on the case of Richard Cottingham, who committed at least 11 murders in New York and New Jersey in 13 years. Of course, even today, when he has been sentenced to life imprisonment, he claims that he has committed about 85-100 murders. The truth is that even after his arrest, old cases were opened and many murders were associated with his name.

The series is set to explore how he acted undisturbed for 13 years in one of New York’s most central neighborhoods. It is even said that he was always targeted by sex workers, whom he first approached as a potential client and then murdered in a very brutal way. All of his victims, without exception, were tortured or dismembered before being killed, which made Cottingham’s arrest even more unlikely. He knew very well what was going on with the police investigations and forensic reports and so he knew very well how to cover his tracks.

Among the 11 murders, fingerprints were found only once
From 1967 he operated undisturbed in the central parts of New York under the nose of the police authorities. When he was finally arrested in 1980, he confessed to the murders he had committed and was sentenced to 173 to 197 years in prison. Over the years, he often admitted to other murders that may have remained unsolved until then.

The new season of the series will consist of 3 episodes and will be released on Netflix on December 29.
