Top listings related to fashion and style could not be missing from the list.
Following 2020’s top and most popular stylistic search for “Indie Style”, Google’s data for 2021 delves into the world of more sophisticated stylistic trends, undoubtedly driven by TikTok’s continued popularity.
Among the top 10 types of outfits Google has identified this year are “rave outfits”, “preppy outfits”, “cottagecore outfits”, “’90s outfits” and “festival outfits”, suggesting that those looking for fashion tips want to delve deeper into indie aesthetics but not in its essence.
Many young Millennials and Gen-Z’s fashion lovers, in other words, see these subcultures less as ideological movements and especially as aesthetics and inspiration for outfits.
In other words, wanting to follow the aesthetics of ravers has nothing to do with being a real raver. It only concerns style, only clothes. And this is a mentality that will be difficult for the older Millennials, Gen-Xers and Boomers to understand.
In 2016, stylist Lotta Volkova predicted this “tangle” of beauticians in an interview with Business of Fashion.
“Obviously, there are no more subcultures to be discovered, at least not in the western world. “It will now be a remix of the information of each culture in combination with some other aesthetics”, he said.
