The Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) presents the periodical exhibition “The Silver Belt” at the Stymfalia Environment Museum. The exhibition, which will last from November 23, 2022 to February 27, 2023, began its journey from the Silversmithing Museum in Ioannina and presents the paintings created by Maria Baha to illustrate the children’s book of the same name by Harris Mega (PIOP Editions).

How is the art of silversmithing connected to the city of Ioannina? How did the fame of Ioannito silversmithing reach the ends of the earth? How did this art take root in the daily life of the city, contributing to the formation of its cultural identity? Harris Mega’s text converses harmoniously with the images, which the painter worked creatively with temperas, pencils and inks.
As part of the exhibition, on Wednesday November 23, an illustration workshop is organized for 4th-5th-6th grade school groups. With the Silver Belt as a vehicle and with the assistance of the illustrator, the students will come into contact with the birthplace of the silversmith’s history and the source of inspiration for the exhibition’s images, namely the Silversmithing Museum. They will then tour the exhibition and have the opportunity to draw snippets of history. After the completion of the workshop, there will be short tours for museum visitors accompanied by the painter-illustrator (13:00-16:00).
