The largest exhibition to date dedicated to the life and art of the illustrator and writer known to the Greek public, Maurice Sendakhosted until March 5 at Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, before traveling to Paris and elsewhere.

In “Wild Things are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak” 150 of Sendak’s sketches, storyboards and paintings are on display. It includes his original works for some of his most famous books such as ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, ‘In the Night Kitchen’ and ‘Outside Over There’ and his works for books by others such as ‘The Bat-Poet ” by Randall Jarrell, “A Hole is to Dig” by Ruth Krauss and “Zlateh the Goat” by Isaac Bashevis Singer.

His relationship with the art he loved and the works he collected by William Blake, Walt Disney, Winsor McCay, George Stubbs, Beatrix Potter and Philipp Otto Runge is also highlighted. Particular attention is given to his love of Mozart and his plans for operas; “I love opera more than anything else and Mozart more than anything else,” declared Sendak.

The exhibition will move to the Musée d’art et d’histoire du Judaïsme in Paris (April 19 – August 27, 2023).
