In the desert landscape north of it Dohaafter Fort Zubarah and the village of Ain Mohammed, the facility spreads “Shadows traveling on the sea of the day” of Olafur Eliasson.
It was ordered 10 years ago and took four years to implement. It consists of 20 circular canopies with reflective surfaces that offer protection from the sun and at the same time ask visitors to reflect on their place in nature.
“It’s kind of a reality check in terms of your connection to the ground. You step firmly on the sand and, at the same time, you hang with your head under a ground that is very high above you,” notes Eliasson in a statement.
The installation “is an invitation to reconnect with the planet. It is a hymn to everything that exists and moves in the desert landscape north of Doha at the time of your visit: animals, plants and people; stories, traditions and cultural artefacts; wind, sunlight, air and sizzling heat,” says the artist.
The installation “Shadows traveling on the sea of the day” is the reaffirmation of Olafur Eliasson’s worship of nature
