The backlash came two days after Biden asked Congress to approve $37 billion in new economic aid for Ukraine.
Criticism of the Biden administration, especially from hardline Republicans in the House, is mounting over the amount of funding provided by Washington to support Ukraine in the face of Russian invasion.
The backlash came two days after Biden asked Congress to approve $37 billion in new economic aid for Ukraine.
In a letter to Congress, the Biden administration requested an additional $37.7 billion in funding for Ukraine. The funding includes $21.7 million for the Pentagon that will be spent in part to address weapons shortages, according to a White House news release that says the money the Defense Department is spending is for “equipment for Ukraine, replenishment of stockpiles of the Ministry of Defense and for continued military, intelligence and other defense support.”
A Republican majority in the House could make it significantly more difficult for the Biden administration to approve funding to Ukraine next year.
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy said Republicans would not give Biden a “blank check” on Ukraine, though he also made clear he supports continued funding for Ukraine’s war.
However, there are many Republicans who are pushing for a significant reduction in US funding to Ukraine.
Since it was Ukraine’s missile that hit our NATO ally Poland, can we at least stop spending billions to arm them now?
