Thessaloniki: From unemployed kindergarten teachers, two sisters became successful entrepreneurs and TikTokers

From unemployed kindergarten teachers, two sisters from Thessaloniki managed not only to find a successful career path, but also to become viral on Tik Tok, with their clever videos, through which they advise parents on various issues that concern them in everyday life their children.

Anastasia and Georgia Baira studied and worked as kindergarten teachers, following their love for children and education, however they found themselves unemployed, with the situation getting worse in the midst of a pandemic. It was then that the two sisters, identifying the problems left by the pandemic and confinement for children, decided to create a small business with handmade products, which make children’s employment more creative, more educational, but above all more fun, while at the same time Tik Tok, with clever videos, provides advice for parents.

“Our work and experience as educators, in the private sector, was not pleasant at all. We were trying to survive, doing what we love and our price was exploitation”, Georgia Baira points out, speaking to APE-MPE, and explains that her sister Anastasia, during the difficult years of the quarantine, was unemployed. So, she decided to use her creativity and that’s how the small business idea was born. The quarantine was a motivation for the two sisters to deeply observe the shortcomings and problems of early childhood education, but also to listen to the needs of parents and teachers.

“At our core, our love for children and the possibility of developing and learning their skills, whether it is at school, at home, on a walk, or on vacation, through handmade products that make their employment even more creative, more educational, but mostly more fun. With this goal in mind, we started two years ago in a small apartment, to slowly build our small business”, they underline.

Their Tik Tok videos have thousands of followers

The two young kindergarten teachers are particularly popular on Tik Tok and with their clever videos they have won the trust of parents and teachers. “Several parents send us, with a personal message, a problem related to their children and thus we have the possibility to interact with people and help them, as best as possible, always according to our knowledge and our experience, on the object. We try, through our videos, to raise questions and concerns that concern every parent and teacher and to provide solutions that may help them”, the two sisters explain.

Their main goal, as they say, is to help with their knowledge, experience and love for children, the children themselves, but also all the factors that surround them. “The coronavirus as an event has thrown us all out of sync”, they say and add: “we want to bring back to everyone’s hearts the importance it has for a child, to create something of his own from scratch. For us, this is also the most suitable way for a child to be in preschool, to essentially learn through what he will make and what it is, the reason it exists. We want to help parents, who do not have the necessary time to build activities for their children and play with them, for us to be that connecting link, so that they can spend quality and entertaining afternoons”, they underline.

“We want children to have fun and at the same time strengthen their skills and abilities, staying away from tablets and televisions”, points out Georgia Baira and explains that “if parents and teachers, follow a common line of education and focus on the development of children, through the senses and through experiential and creative education, it is almost certain that the pandemic-created computer screen mentality will change.”

Referring to the professional relationship as well as the collaboration between them, they confided that it is an experience that they never expected to live as sisters. “In a daily life that for us, as a smaller company, is more pressing, there are also disagreements, which are inevitable as we are completely different personalities. But this is also our magic ingredient, as we perfectly complement each other! We have always been together as brothers, now we are together and proud to build something that we love equally and it is none other than the smile of children. Our day always begins and ends with a smile and humor and with emotion every time a child plays with something we thought of and made with our own hands”, they note with pride.
