Cases of infectious diseases in 2024 amounted to 6,134 against 4,177 cases reported in 2023, showing an increase of 46.9%, according to ELSTAT.
The largest increase (93.4%) was seen in laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza (2,305 out of 1,192), while 38 cases were also recorded
measles
Influenza showed seasonality mainly in the winter months, while cases decreased in the spring and remained low from June to November.
In total, 2,305 cases were reported for 2024 compared to 1,192 in 2023, making influenza the most common infection of the year, with a 93.4% increase.
Compared to 2023, in 2024 salmonellosis increased by 12.4% and tuberculosis decreased by 19.2%.
Based on the number of registered cases, salmonellosis showed the most cases in the summer months, from June to October, while the most cases of tuberculosis occurred in the months of March, April and December.
Campylobacter infection presented a total of 908 cases, with an increasing trend from May to October. Compared to 2023, 2024 saw an increase of 37.8%.
Whooping cough recorded 440 cases in 2024 showing a significant increase compared to 2023 when 12 cases were reported.
West Nile virus infection recorded a total of 220 cases, showing summer seasonality, as cases are limited to the months of June to October. Compared to 2023, the infection increased by 35.8%.
