‘Erasmo Carlos was a giant’: Celebrities mourn the singer’s death at 81

With the death of Erasmo Carlos, many fans –whether famous or anonymous– paid tribute and mourned the artist’s departure on social networks. Affectionately nicknamed Tremendão, the singer passed away this Tuesday (22), in Rio de Janeiro, aged 81.

Director Boninho was one of those who mourned the artist’s death. “My farewell to dear Tremendão. Erasmo takes your smile and rock to heaven! Miss you,” he wrote. Singer Paulo Ricardo honored the artist by sharing a video of him. “Rest in peace our eternal Tremendão.”

Actress Cristiana Oliveira, famous for playing Juma in the first version of the soap opera “Pantanal” (Manchete), also paid homage to the artist on her networks. “Damn Erasmo. You’ll be missed. Great guy! Go in peace! You left your beautiful legacy here!” Junno Andrade also published images of the artist and said “goodbye” to Tremendão.

President-elect Lula (PT) also mourned Erasmo’s death. “Tremendous, faithful friend, comrade brother, sang love, the strength of women and concern for the environment”. Director Renato Terra honored him by saying that he was “a giant who brought a message of peace, love, understanding in his work”. On Twitter, the name of the artist and his nickname were among the most commented subjects in Brazil this afternoon.

On October 17, the singer had been admitted to the Barra D’Or hospital, in Barra da Tijuca (RJ) and had the performances he would do in the United States cancelled. In August 2021, Erasmo had already been admitted to treat a Covid. At the time, he used his Instagram profile to report that he tested positive for the disease and asked for prayers for his fans.
