“Copenhagen Cowboy”: The series could be characterized as a modern western – Watch the trailer

The director Nicolas Winding Refnafter films such as Drive and Neon Demon, launches its new collaboration with the Netflix platform with the series “Copenhagen Cowboy”. The trailer seems to be a big mash-up of all the director’s previous works, but also everything that has influenced his films to date.

The main character of this story is a very mysterious woman, Miu. She herself “served” the underworld of Copenhagen for several years. Now, however, he has reached the point where he wants to make a new beginning. But her past does not share the same opinion. Trying to find justice and take revenge for what happened to her until then, she meets her nemesis, Rakel. The two take part in an endless odyssey that artfully mixes the realistic with the supernatural. The past after all is capable of taking many different forms, coming back and ultimately determining their future. But what surprises both women is that they learn that they are not alone in this, that there are many other women in the same position as them.

An unconventional narrative

Nothing in “Copenhagen Cowboy” resembles the movies you’ve already seen and the narratives you already know. And that’s because the director creates a story of true revenge that deals with the supernatural, fantasy, tradition and intense images. All of these are perfectly connected to each other through the shifts in space and time that give meaning to the story.

In fact, this is director Nicolas Winding Refn’s first venture in Denmark and in his native language after he became known in America and Hollywood with his films and collaborations.

The series will premiere on Netflix on January 5.
