Before you turn to exercise and the healthiest diet ask yourself “why” you want to do it

by

We all more or less put a lot of emphasis on the things we do to improve our health – what we eat, what workouts we do, what time we wake up in the morning and what time we go to bed at night.

But by focusing so much on “what” we do, we may forget an even more basic question.

This according to personal trainer Lucy Anne McConnell, who wrote in a recent Instagram post:

“I think we are very stuck in what… Can we talk a little about the missing piece? Why?

For her, asking yourself “why” you do something has to do with understanding your intentions behind your actions. If, for example, you do something only because it is a trend, and not because it makes you feel good or because you really like it.

To understand this, it is advisable to ask yourself questions such as: “Why do you eat in a certain way? Why is it really something that fills you or because it is the trend this time? “

“Why do you exercise? Is it because exercise makes you feel strong and full of energy or do you feel a compulsive need to move every day?

Such questions will reveal some hard truths behind the reasons for your every habit.

This is why Dottie Fildes, trainer at SWTC and Sweat It, encourages her clients to ask themselves “why”. He believes that learning a coach’s reasoning gives you some independence and helps you really take responsibility for your journey to improve your fitness.

“Those who work with a coach have the opportunity to understand their training a little better, so that one day they gain enough confidence to do it on their own. “And it’s also important to have an open discussion about why certain exercises or training techniques are used.”

After all, what good is a web site if it simply “blends in” with everything else out there?

Doing things you do not understand why you do them may seem pointless (even if it is not) – and often it may be easier to want to do something if you know exactly how it will help you. In this sense, asking “why” you do something is a motivation.
