The 45-year-old singer claims that the authorities violated her personal life, releasing sensitive personal data and not recognizing her presumption of innocence

Shakira she is reportedly accusing Spanish prosecutors, who sued her for tax fraud, of a smear campaign against her.

The 45-year-old Grammy winner claims authorities violated her privacy by releasing sensitive personal data and denying her the presumption of innocence in the way they handled the case.

The famous singer’s legal team also reportedly claims that she was not a resident of Spain during the time period she is accused of tax fraud.

Under Spanish law, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer only has to pay taxes if she spends 183 or more days in the European country in a single year.

In September, Shakira was taken to a Spanish court for allegedly failing to pay $13.9 million in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

If found guilty, the singer could face up to eight years in prison and a $24 million fine! This is an unimaginable amount.

However, Shakira denies that she was a permanent resident of Spain from 2012 to 2014 and that she actually paid $10,141,075 in taxes to the US government, TMZ reports.

Prosecutors contend, however, that the “Voice” judge declared herself a tax resident of Spain in 2015 after settling there with her now-ex-partner, Gerard Piqué, and their two sons, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.

The singer and the Spanish soccer star announced their split in June after more than a decade together.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” Shakira’s public relations company said in a statement.

“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
