Martin Scorsese is a fan of ‘Derry Girls’

Its creator “Derry Girls”, Lisa McGee reacted with utter disbelief when the Oscar-winning director, Martin Scorseserevealed that he watched the series.

The ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Gangs of New York’ director revealed he watched the Channel 4 sitcom set during ‘The Troubles’, as the conflict in Northern Ireland is known. The famed director made the revelation in a speech at the Economic Club of Chicago’s annual dinner last month.

Now, 1.5 months after the incident, Lisa McGee has tweeted a clip of Scorsese discussing the series, with the caption: “Sorry, I’m dropping dead and really freaking out.”

In the clip, Scorsese says, “I saw Derry Girls one night,” and the crowd can be heard cheering and clapping. The director responds by saying, “Those nuns!”

The Derry Girls series follows a group of schoolgirls at a school run by a formidable group of nuns.

The series ended after three seasons in May of this year. It was nominated for two Baftas for Best Comedy and Screenplay. The series was highly rated and featured cameo appearances by Liam Neeson and Chelsea Clinton.

The British novelist, author of “One Day”, David Nicholls, was quick to congratulate the creator of the series with a message: “Oh my God! Dream. Congratulations, Lisa!”

Actor Nikesh Patel also commented on Lisa McGee’s post, writing: “A person with great taste.”
