A… different Parthenon located in Australia, and specifically in the center of Melbourne. The reason for it “Temple of Boom”.

In the Grollo Equiset Garden of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne, ‘Temple of Boom’ honors the Parthenon, inviting the public to reflect on the effects of time on all architecture, as the structure is gradually transformed with artwork and murals which, in three phases, from November to August 2023, will adorn it.

The NGV launched the project as part of the Architecture Commission’s annual series, in which it invites Australian architects to create site-specific works in its garden. The ‘Temple of Boom’ was designed by Adam Newman and Kelvin Tsang of Studio NWMN and at its center is a bronze statue of a seated woman, a 1958 work by Henry Moore. According to NVG, the ‘Temple of Boom’ will serve as a community gathering place and outdoor event space during the Antipodes summer season.

The works of the first participating artists – Drez, Manda Lane and David Lee – presented at the opening • range from floral motifs to optical illusions, and draw inspiration from the colorful decoration that covered the Parthenon millennia ago.
