Disaffection of the Brazilian national team player Vini Jr., striker Iván Alejo, from Cadiz, made a racist post after the elimination of Brazil, in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar, this Friday afternoon (9). He posted monkey emojis and, after criticism from netizens, the player deleted the publication.
“As you saw, I deleted a tweet because I realized that an interpretation was made that was not what I wanted to convey,” he wrote in a new post, putting emojis of cartoons celebrating and faces with hands over their mouths.
On the networks, netizens criticized the Spanish player. “Iván Alejo, ex-Atletico Madrid player, calling Vinícius a monkey. That’s what these Nazis stand for,” tweeted the netizen who identifies himself as Hanoi Don.
“The shameless Zé Nobody of Iván Alejo made fun of Vinicius with this tweet, which he later deleted,” wrote youtuber Miguel Serrano. “Take advantage of your two minutes of fame, you play for Cádiz and this is probably the most attention-grabbing moment of your career. By the way Iván, how was your participation in the World Cup?”, asked internet user Vitor Hugo.
Alejo has already exchanged barbs with Vini after Cadiz’s defeat by Real Madrid. At the time, he went to the networks to say that the team demonstrated that it can compete with anyone. “A pity that the rival’s great players are not up to par in their behaviour,” he wrote, adding a photo of Vini receiving a yellow card.
Before Alejo’s post, the Brazilian player was the target of racist abuse by Pedro Bravo, president of the Association of Spanish Agents, on a TV show, for doing little dances in celebration of goals. He told him to “dance in the sambodrome in Brazil and stop acting silly.”
