Why is everyone talking about the Wednesday series? – Jenna Ortega became an icon of the “gothic” style

by

The character has always been a source of inspiration for fashion, and now, thanks to Tim Burton’s new series, he’s making a splash again…

Tim Burton made his television debut in the movie “Wednesday”, based on the character of Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family. The Netflix series follows the oldest child in the family, played by Jenna Ortegaas he attends Nevermore Academy.

Wednesday has always been a gothic style icon. Back in 2019, the character inspired designer Miuccia Prada. At her autumn-winter fashion show, models wore Wednesday’s signature braids while walking the runway to the Addams Family theme song.

For the Netflix show, Burton enlisted one of his most consistent collaborators, costume designer Colleen Atwood, to create Wednesday’s wardrobe. In the series, while still wearing her braids and loving the color black, Wednesday wears clothes from well-known designers such as Miu Miu, Prada and Alaïa.

Like all students at Nevermore Academy, she must wear a uniform, although she does not wear the same one as her classmates. Hers is black and gray instead of blue and black, the school colors. She completes the outfit with Prada Monolith boots – a combination that makes her look like she’s just stepped out of a Thom Browne fashion show rather than the runways of Nevermore.

Outside of school, Wednesday has another wardrobe of A-line dresses, platform sneakers, and baggy blouses. The color palette remains largely the same, but there are some twists. She is seen wearing a Miu Miu black and white striped jacket, as well as checkerboard patterned jackets, vests and shirts.

However, it was a ruffled dress by designer Alaïa that went viral. While Wednesday’s style went unnoticed in earlier versions of The Addams Family, Burton’s character looks set to bring the “gothic” style back to the fore.
