Musician and actress Lily Allen defended them nepo babies – a term for the children of famous parents – and accused the entertainment industry of causing “child trauma” due to their hostile attitude towards working parents.

“The nepo babies you should be worried about are the ones who work in law firms, the ones who work in banks, and the ones who work in politics, if we’re talking about real-world consequences, who steal opportunities from other people,” she wrote. Allen on Twitter. “BUT that’s none of my business.”

She continued: “And before you come at me for being a nepo baby, I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m literally worth nothing.”

This comment by the British singer sparked reactions on Twitter from many of her followers, who pointed out that she has benefited in the field of entertainment, as she is the daughter of the actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen.

Allen has appeared in two of her mother’s films, Elizabeth starring Cate Blanchett and most recently How to Build a Girl. According to IMDb, her first screen appearances as a child were minor roles in projects starring her father, including the TV series “The Comic Strip Presents…”

Her brother Alfie, also an actor who has worked with his family, played Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.

In response to a Twitter user who asked: “Why do your parents have links to Wikipedia[;],” Allen replied, “Because I’m a nepo baby, both of my parents are super talented.”

But Allen, who rose to fame with her music in the mid-2000s before turning to acting, went on to hint that life isn’t always perfect for the offspring of celebrities in the entertainment industry as the industry is “not friendly to the parents”. “In childhood we long for stability and love, nurturing,” he tweeted. “We are not yet interested in money or proximity to power. Many of the nepo babies are starved of these basic things in childhood, as their parents are probably narcissists.”

“[A] and the entertainment business is not parent friendly eg tours / months away on set. It can be hard to see your own privilege when you’re still processing childhood trauma, and a lot of these kids don’t understand that yet.”
