Eight teenage girls who met through social media have been charged in the slaying of a homeless man in Toronto on Sunday, police said.
The gang of three 13 years oldthree 14 years old and two 16 years old of girls, squeeze it 59 years old their victim in a square near the main train station shortly after midnight on December 18.
Passers-by who saw the girls stabbing the man immediately called for help, resulting in the victim being taken to a nearby hospital.
The 59-year-old, who had been living in a city shelter for several weeks, passed away from his injuries.
The teenage girls were found near the crime scene, having on them large number of weapons.
It emerged they were involved in another fight about two hours before they killed the homeless man, proving the girls were out to cause trouble.
Three of the minors seem to have record with the police.
The girls live in different parts of Toronto and met through social media, although police do not yet know how long they have known each other. Officials are still investigating why they met in the area and what their plans for the evening may have been.
All eight girls have been charged with second-degree murder. They were remanded in custody and are expected to reappear in end of the month.
