For Gloria Estefanstepping into the recording studio with her family to create their first Christmas album was a dream come true.
Speaking to US magazine ‘People’ about ‘Estefan Family Christmas’, a holiday album she recorded with her 10-year-old grandson Sasha and daughter Emily, the Cuban singer revealed how the fun recording came about and why she’ll cherish it forever.
“We always celebrate Thanksgiving at my house. And since Sasha was little, he liked to organize small shows for the family after dinner,” said the singer. “I would play the guitar. Emily would play either the guitar or the piano. In 2019 I said to them, ‘You know what? Let’s do something different this year. Let’s write a short chorus and then Sasha will take the microphone and pass it around to the family members and they can say what they’re thankful for.'”

“In 2021, Sasha said to me, ‘I think something weird happens to my voice when I try to sing higher notes.’ And I thought, “Oh, here it comes, the teenage train.” And at that moment I thought it would be really cool to capture his childish voice,” he added.
And he continued: “Well, I went [στα μέλη της οικογένειάς μου] and I said to them, “How about we make a Christmas record so we can share our little Christmas shows with everyone else, but professionally and in a nice way?” And they loved it.”
The 17-track record, with songs in English and Spanish, includes an original track called “Thankful,” which is inspired by the Thanksgiving tradition.
“It was wonderful. We spent a few months together in the studio. Sasha learned a lot. He stayed with me the whole time, even when I was there until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning,” she said.
The performer even convinced her husband Emilio to sing a duet with Sasha on the album, something he had never done before – and probably never will again.
“He was excited about it. Well, what he wasn’t excited about later on was that I was the producer, because he’s always on the other side and he’s the one telling everyone what to do,” she added.
