The exotic island that attracted just 45 tourists throughout 2021

by

In 2019, it attracted 6.2 million foreign tourists from all over the world (many from Greece). However, in 2021 this number was limited to just… 45.

The reason for Bali, one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia but also in the whole of Southeast Asia, which received a strong blow from the coronavirus pandemic.

The island, with an area of 5,632 square kilometers and a population of 3.9 million inhabitants, has always been a very popular place for vacation and relaxation.

Sandy beaches, delicious food, exotic drinks, hot weather and tropical vegetation were the guarantees for a dream vacation.

However, the outbreak of the health crisis drastically changed the situation and Bali was left completely… empty of tourists.

Travel restrictions were the No. 1 factor for this negative record, as Ngurah Rai International Airport was closed for most of 2021.

Local authorities had banned the arrival of international flights, as they only allowed domestic flights (mainly from the capital Jakarta).

The measures were lifted only in October, but the damage had already been done.

Let us not forget, moreover, that anyone wishing to visit Bali even today is required to pay $ 300 for a visa, undergo several PCR tests and purchase a special medical insurance package.

As for the 45 foreign travelers who chose the island as a vacation spot, they came mainly by sea on private yachts.
