Atsalakis to SKAI: Limit contacts indoors – Omicron is coming aggressively

by

The spread of the Omicron variant in our country was to be aggressive, as characterized by the professor of Analytical Chemistry George Atsalakis, proposing some protection measures to limit it, speaking to SKAI and the show “Today”.

“When Omicron comes, it will go up very aggressively. “In England, out of the 32 cases, in one week they reached 532 and in 2 weeks they exceeded 15 thousand”, he stated characteristically.

As a professor pointed out, contacts should be limited, mainly indoors, while he agreed that a brake should be considered on the opening hours of the stores. “We have to take some measures now, although we do not have all the data to decide,” he said.

He pointed out that the Omicron wave will bring more cases than the Delta. “We will see cases that we have not seen so far, but we do not know if the number of hospitalizations will be affected.”

Commenting on the possibility of mandatory testing in anticipation of New Year’s Eve, he stressed that it is a good measure as he said that there is evidence that Omicron bypasses immunity, although it is not known to what extent and more studies are needed for accurate data. as he mentioned.

He stressed that the indicator that concerns our country is the high death rate that remains at high levels. “In the previous 3 waves after the peak of the cases in 10-15 days, the deaths had escalated, while 35 days have passed and they remain at a high level, so we are already under pressure,” he said.

There are more cases than we have diagnosed this is certain, but we have quite an indicative picture. It is a law that the Omicron will come, we are a little behind compared to other states because we do not accept many foreigners.

At the same time, he stated that it is important to make the third dose to keep active the 64% of vaccinations that our country has so far, while he added that those who are not vaccinated should proceed to their vaccination immediately.

Vasilakopoulos for Omicron: “There are more cases than we have diagnosed, that is for sure”

The professor of Pulmonology and Intensive Care, Theodoros Vasilakopoulos, spoke about an extremely contagious executive whose arrival in our country is legal. He even stressed that there are more cases of the variant than those that have been diagnosed, although as he said there is an indicative picture, due to the tracing.

“In the US and Britain within three weeks of its appearance, Omicron is the dominant strain of new diagnoses, so this confirms that it has a very high transmissibility,” he said.

Finally, for the unvaccinated, he characteristically stressed that they must accept to be vaccinated and trust science, as the longer they do not, the longer the end of the pandemic.
