If you’re a travel enthusiast and you’re in the process of looking for the next destination you’d like to travel to, chances are you’re looking for criteria such as history, architecture, attractions and natural beauty. You certainly care less about where you will stay, since what matters is discovering the place you will go.

Or maybe not;

In some cases, this may be true. But can you make the stay part of your experience? Are there any hotels as beautiful as the sights you will encounter? And yet they exist! Hotels – jewels, with a long history, legends to accompany their reputation, unique architecture and special decoration, which will make your stay so special, that you will not want to leave your room.

Riad Kniza, Marrakech, Morocco

The 18th century Riad Kniza is a gem in the heart of Marrakech’s old medina. Intimate and glamorous, the boutique hotel pays homage to Moorish architecture. After major restoration work, the riad’s 11 rooms and suites feature dark wood, deep hues and luxurious fabrics. It also has a beautiful swimming pool and hammam, while its nine-table restaurant is known as one of the finest in the city.

Elvira Castle, Puglia, Italy

It took meticulous restoration to bring Castle Elvira, a turreted estate built in the early 20th century and abandoned after a rumored tragedy 100 years ago, to its present form. Traditional frescoed ceilings and checkerboard tiles are combined with contemporary artwork and bold furnishings, including carved marble bathtubs and brightly colored plush headboards.

Olive groves and landscaped gardens surround the building facilities. There are two dining rooms, a piano bar, private lounges, a cinema, a roof terrace overlooking the Puglia countryside and a magnificent infinity pool set in a tropical garden. If you want to get a taste of dolce vita, lie down on one of the oversized sunbeds and order a cocktail served on a cart.

Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle, France

Le Grand Contrôle has one of the most magnificent and history-rich postcodes imaginable: That of Château de Versailles. The Grand Appartement of Airelles Château de Versailles offers a unique experience, with unparalleled views of the palace and grounds that were once the home of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

The hotel’s 14 rooms, designed in 18th-century detail, reflect the grandeur of the former residents and allow special access to the palace’s grandeur, such as the tranquil gardens and the dazzling Hall of Mirrors.

Cliveden House, Berkshire, United Kingdom

Dating back to 1666, Cliveden House has been the glamorous setting for many lavish concerts, cultural events, distinguished guests and even the occasional political scandal in its time. The impressive manor house, spread over 376 acres in the Chiltern Hills, features a wealth of elaborately designed rooms and grand suites, filled with traditional architectural details and plush furnishings.

Each suite is named after one of the former guests who were part of the property’s history. Spring Cottage, a charming three-bedroom residence on the banks of the River Thames, was a place where Queen Victoria was known to take afternoon tea. Cliveden has also played a part in recent royal history, as where Meghan Markle stayed the night before her wedding.

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, India

The Taj Lake Palace Hotel is like a mirage floating in the middle of Udaipur’s breathtaking Lake Pichola. The masterpiece with its marble walls, elaborate gardens, fountains and ornate courtyards dates back to 1743 when it was built by Maharana Jagat Singh II, the 62nd Custodian of the House of Mewar as a summer retreat for the Mewar royal family.

It was converted into a hotel in the 1960s, thus allowing the public to enjoy the experience of this privileged location through bright rooms that shine on the Aravalli and Machla Magra hills.
