Netflix’s new Korean series “The Silent Sea” will take us to the moon

There are quite a few Korean hits right now on the Netflix platform. If you think that Squid Game and Hellbound topped the world rankings right after their release, it’s no surprise that Netflix is investing more and more in Korean content.

This time, the new series The Silent Sea comes with a different but equally interesting theme.

The Silent Sea takes place on Earth of the future

The Earth is now deserted, but a team of scientists wants to collect a significant sample of some abandoned plant on the moon. With the data available, this mission is more than complicated.

Their journey to the moon eventually becomes necessary due to climate change. Once they get there, their findings make the case even more bizarre. Inside the station they find many dead, while at the same time an unknown creature tries to approach them. In the 8 episodes of the series, the heroes are called to discover many secrets of the past and take matters into their own hands.

The series is based on a short film

In 2014, director Choi Hang-Yong created the short film The Sea of Tranquility. This year, he was given the opportunity to expand the story he started and create a series of 8 episodes on behalf of Netflix.

As for the cast of the series, Bae Doona plays the astrobiologist Song Ji-an, who is convinced that she must find out about the accident that happened years ago at the station they had created on the moon. On the other hand, Gong Yoo, who you saw in Squid Game, but also in Train to Busan, impersonates the leader of the mission, while other familiar faces participate as engineers, etc.

The dystopian narratives seem to have been the ace up the sleeve of Korean creators for years. The Silent Sea comes simply to confirm the rule we already knew.

The series will premiere on December 24 on Netflix.
