Presenter William Bonner, 59, said he was humiliated in a hotel elevator in Brasília (DF). This Sunday (1st), during coverage of the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the presenter jokingly reported an episode in which he interacted with representatives of the German government and did not do so well.
Bonner and Renata Lo Prete spoke about the movement of hotels in the country’s capital. “When you talk about a hotel in Brasilia, you need to understand the following at home: Brasilia is living, in these days of presidential inauguration, the pinnacle of the hotel sector. from São Paulo, I came from Rio de Janeiro and we are staying here in a hotel in Brasilia”, began Bonner.
“The hotel where we are staying, Renata and I, also hosts, for example, the president of Germany. Today I had the opportunity to see one of his staff in the elevator, with whom I even spoke in English, but I was immediately humiliated by one of the occupants of the elevator who uttered spectacular and fluent German,” he said.
The internet reacted. The word “Bonner” was trending topics [assuntos mais comentados] from Twitter. “Wondering whether the person who humiliated Bonner with fluent German in the hotel elevator is watching the inauguration,” commented one internet user.
In October of this year, during the vote counting for the elections, the presenter became a meme when he said he needed to wet his throat and left the frame, at which point it was possible to hear the noise of a can being opened. Many thought he had opened a can of beer. Bonner explained that it was just water.
A week ago, William Bonner won the Journalism award for the Best of the Year 2022, from TV Globo, and highlighted that professional colleagues have spent the last few years being harassed in the streets. “I, Renata [Lo Prete] and Caesar [Tralli] we represent a career of professionals who in recent years have dedicated themselves to bringing light and information. It is very pleasant to be here seeing the public’s retribution.”
