Tired of fighting with neighbors and with a mechanical workshop that is next to her house in Belém (PA), singer Gretchen, 63, decided that she will leave Brazil and return to live in Portugal in the coming weeks. The revelation was made by her in an open letter on her social networks after, once again, denouncing that people have been parking cars in front of her garage without permission.
This time, according to her, it was the police who stopped the car in front of the mechanic shop to change one of the tires. After an attempt at conversation, Gretchen says that she was not respected and, therefore, decided to anticipate her return to the European country.
“Given the facts that occurred this week with great abuse of power by those who were supposed to protect us, I reformulated my work schedule and decided to advance my trip”, she said, while also informing that her husband, saxophonist Esdras, passed the master’s degree in music therapy, in a Lisbon College.
“I’ve always learned that respect comes from birth, education is something that doesn’t depend on social class. Wherever I am, I’ll always cherish respect and justice. I want to make it even clearer that I’m not afraid of anyone, not even the police” , amended the singer.
Gretchen points out that this wasn’t the first, nor would it be the last, time that she’s had to argue with people who park in front of her gate. Out of tiredness, she prefers to stop arguing for the sake of her mental health.
“I can allow myself to renew my energies in a place where I’m respected. Around here, the right to come and go is hurt. I never raged for imbalance or the media, I was just the voice of many who go through it, such a headache.”
