As informed by the commander of the 6th health district, Mr. Karvelis, brain death has occurred in the 6-year-old child and with the consent of the parents, organ donation is being initiated, while the National Transplantation Organization has been informed and the protocol will be followed.
“We bow to the parents of the child and to little Thomas from Grevena who will give life to other children who are struggling in some intensive care…” said the head of the Children’s ICU of the University Hospital of Patras, Andreas Iliadis.
It is recalled that yesterday in a last-ditch effort, therapeutic hypothermia of the brain was performed, in order to protect it from cerebral edema, and the genetic control process had begun, as is foreseen in these cases, in order to find out if there is a genetic background that caused the sudden stop.
