How stress affects your skin and what you can do about it

by

Just as it affects mental well-being, sleep and gut health, stress can also affect the skin.
Either due to emotional stress or due to external factors, the results are almost the same. In fact, a particularly intense care routine can cause increased sensitivity and wear and tear, unwittingly. Still, if not treated properly, the condition can get worse. In particular, when the skin begins to react, its protective barrier is destroyed, making it even more vulnerable.

In fact, a skin reaction is often aggravated not by the wrong product, but by the right product in the wrong place. When the skin barrier is damaged, then even your daily foundation can create a problem. More specifically, instead of “sitting” on the skin, it can now penetrate it. Often, the cause behind a dramatic change in the skin can be easily identified and corrected. But what you may not realize is that frequent mild rashes, dry spots, pimples or itching and flaking can be due to constant stress.

So see below what you can do to improve the situation.

Do not overload your skin
Increasingly, experts are reporting self-inflicted damage from excessive use of peeling, scrubs, micro-needling and other invasive devices. This is usually due to our efforts to use professional home remedies. This does not mean that the above treatments should be avoided, just used sparingly.

The same goes for skin care. It makes sense with the plethora of products on the market, to end up with 10 different serums in the bathroom cupboard. Often, you can even use more than 1 or 2 at a time. But this can cause irritation and sensitivity leading to the opposite results from what you want.

Therefore, limit your daily routine to a cleanser, a toner, 1-2 serums and a soothing cream. Ideally, one of the serums preferred to contain hyaluronic acid, to keep stressed skin hydrated.

Review the exfoliation
Even stressed skin needs some exfoliation, especially as dry, flaky texture can be a sign of stress. The goal is to gently exfoliate to remove dead cells. So, if you use a face cloth with your cleanser or have a slightly acidic toner, it is enough. You do not need to use any additional exfoliating or peeling product. Otherwise, peeling or scrubbing twice a week is enough for damaged skin.

It is better to avoid the combination of exfoliating cleanser, toner with acid, scrub and exfoliating mask. Such a routine is excessive for any skin type.

Aim for a healthy glow
Dull skin can be a sign of internal stress. The capillaries constrict, resulting in less blood flow near the surface of the skin. But good circulation is the key to healthy skin, as it brings oxygen and nutrients to the skin. In addition, when the blood is closer to the surface of the skin, it improves the absorption of care products. In particular, facial massage is a simple and good solution for increased blood circulation.

A few seconds more to massage with your cleanser and cream is enough. Going a step further, you can use a gua sha or a microwave device, such as NuFace, to stimulate your muscles and skin.

Refresh your skin
Anything cold is very energetic for stressed, sluggish skin. You can make ice cubes from green tea or chamomile, which is anti-inflammatory, or from dandelion tea, which is good for draining swelling and fluids. He passed them over the face, working from the center outwards. Thus, you will help stimulate circulation and calm the inflammation.

Use a soothing cream
When the skin barrier is destroyed, any skin type becomes severely dehydrated. Therefore, the generous application of a rich – but not heavy or greasy – cream can really help. A good cream can soothe and deeply treat in a way that no serum can. So, choose a rich cream, especially at night and apply it, almost like a mask, so that it can penetrate and deeply nourish the skin. You will see the difference from the next morning!
