Right at the beginning of the coup demonstrations in Brasília, actress Regina Duarte decided to share a video in which she praised the now ex-president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In it, she showed a passage of the politician in the United States and the affection received by supporters. “If it continues like this, Bolsonaro will end up being president of the USA, and we will be the losers”, read the caption.
Regina even wrote that calm was needed. “He may have looked crazy, but he always fought for the four lines. The Constitution will stop him. Always”, she amended.
With that, many people decided to criticize Regina’s post, which happened practically at the same time as the acts of coup leaders who entered the Esplanada dos Ministérios, invaded the Planalto Palace, Congress and the STF (Supreme Federal Court), spread acts of vandalism in Brasilia and clashed with the Military Police.
“You can’t be serious, Regina! Supporting vandalism is the same as joining them. Destroying public property is a crime. Shame on you”, published Márcia Elizei’s profile. “Wow, defending violence? What is written on our flag? Order. How can we want a better Brazil with all this vandalism?”, wrote the profile Marli_libras. Already the first messages of the post were from supporters of the former president who showed devotion to him.
Unlike Regina, artists spoke out against the invasions. On social networks, artists such as Marcelo D2, Silva, Bruno Gagliasso, Cleo, Ingrid Guimarães, Lucas Silveira and Rennan da Penha expressed their indignation at the acts. Other celebrities, such as Gil do Vigor and Felipe Neto, also took a stand
Podcaster Monark, on the other hand, decided to say that he feels sympathy for the people who vandalized the place.
