Jenn Shah sentenced to 6.5 years in prison and $16 million in fines

The American actress Jennifer Shah (Jennifer Shah), star of the American reality television show “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City”, was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for conspiracy and committing fraud.

She had admitted her involvement in a telemarketing scheme that targeted and defrauded vulnerable people and – after the sentence was announced – will be sent to a US federal prison on February 17.

Prosecutors alleged that Shah, 49, and her former assistant Stuart Smith – who also pleaded guilty – created lists of vulnerable victims, including elderly people, which they sold to other members of the fraud scheme.

With an organized plan, as stated by the prosecutors in the courtroom, thousands of people were defrauded since 2012. Among the victims was a 70-year-old woman who lost half her savings and another person with health problems who was left homeless after losing money paying for fraudulent business opportunities, according to victim statements.

The actress’ lawyers asked for three years in prison, while prosecutors suggested 10 years in prison.

She was sentenced to 78 months in prison, fined $6.5 million, and will also pay up to $9.5 million in restitution to her victims.

Jenn Shah was arrested in March 2021 while filming Real Housewives of Salt Lake City on Bravo.

During the show, the reality star had often advertised her lavish lifestyle, including her expensive clothes, jewelery and entourage.
