Employees will be given the opportunity to change positions within the company, Amazon said.

Amazon plans to close three of its warehouses in Britain in a move that will affect 1,200 jobs, but workers will be able to transfer to other facilities, the online retail giant announced today.

The company said it had begun consultations to close three legacy warehouses in Britain this year, which employ 1,200 people in one of its biggest markets. Amazon outside the US.

These employees will be given the opportunity to change positions within the company, Amazon said.

The company has 30 large storage units across the UK.

Amazon has announced plans to open two new warehouses in central and north-east England over the next three years, a move it says will create 2,500 new jobs.

The Seattle-based online retailer said last week it would cut 18,000 jobs worldwide, expecting slower growth as consumers and businesses cut back on spending due to high inflation.

The planned closure of UK warehouses is not part of a wider restructuring that mainly covers jobs outside the warehouses, e-commerce and human resources departments.
