DiscoverEU programme: 47,700 travel passes offered to young Europeans

Applicants will be able to travel alone or in groups of up to five people, from March 2023 to February 2024.

Today, the 162,931 young men and women who have submitted applications to DiscoverEU programme in the October 2022 cycle they will find out if they have been selected. In total 47,700 young men and women aged 18 they will receive travel pass. Successful applicants will be able to travel alone or in groups of up to five people from March 2023 to February 2024. They will travel mainly by train, with some exceptions to allow young people who they live on islands or remote areas.

Maria Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said: “With DiscoverEU, 47,700 young people will soon start planning their trips across Europe and join the growing community of commuters Europeans. And because our young people want to discover the culture of the places they will visit, we also offer them a discount card for cultural activities, and we have also published themed cultural routes on the European Youth Portal. I hope this experience will be unforgettable for them.”

In the context of the Erasmus+ programme, this round of applications was addressed to young people born between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2004, from EU Member States and from countries associated with Erasmus+ (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey). Those selected will also be able, prior to their departure, to participate in information sessions and meetings across Europe to enhance the educational dimension of the trips. On 12 January 2022 there will be a live Q&A session on the official #DiscoverEU Facebook page where the selected candidates will be informed about their trip.
