In 12 days, that is on Saturday January 21stthe official opening ceremony will take place in Georgiou Square in Patras paternal carnival.
This year’s events will begin on Tuesday 17 January with the traditional musical float and telalis tours, which will carry the joyous message of the opening through the streets of the city center and districts.
Then, at noon on January 21st, the customary handing over of the carnival banner will take place at the town hall, while the big rendezvous of the carnivalists will take place in the evening with the official opening ceremony.
In this context, the municipality’s non-profit enterprise, “Carnival of Patras”, has prepared, as announced, “a special evening with many events and surprises, giving a primary and central place to the revival, which will also be the message of this great celebration” .
A part and main event of the opening ceremony isaccording to the non-profit enterprise, “idea and realization of the choreographer, Spyros Kouvaras, who proposes rebirth as the central idea of the ceremony, i.e. a rebirth of nature and culture, an activation of hope, imagination and senses”.
In particular, Spyros Kouvaras is expected, as announced, “to set up a “fantasy garden” on stage, i.e. from the smallest organism to the largest mountain range and from the simple play of children to the movement of galaxies, since everything that moves participates in life”.
At the same time, the choreographer and his team are expected to present, according to the non-profit enterprise, “a mixed spectacle of movement, image and sound, in which ground and aerial dancers, multi-layered video projections and lighting reflections, will interact kaleidoscopically, additively building a collective journey , a renaissance elegy for the now and tomorrow of our world”.
