Gilberto Gil pays tribute to Preta Gil after cancer diagnosis

Singer Gilberto Gil posted this Wednesday (11) on Instagram a tribute to his daughter Preta Gil, 48, who made it public that she has bowel cancer. In the message, he posted a video of the singer with her family, spoke of her daughter’s strength and posted an excerpt from the song “Realce”, written by her.

“If life hurts / With the feeling of brightness / Suddenly we will shine”, says the song’s excerpt shared by the singer’s father. “Pretinha, since you were born, everything around you has become more beautiful and intense. Your strength has always been an example for all of us. We are with you.”

On Tuesday night (10), the singer used social networks to tell fans that she has bowel cancer. She was hospitalized for six days at Clínica São Vicente, in Rio, due to a discomfort she felt and, after tests, she discovered the disease.

“Thank God, today I received a definitive diagnosis. I have an adenocarcinoma in the final portion of the intestine. I start my treatment next Monday [16] and I count on everyone’s energy to remain calm and confident.”

Initially, the singer’s family had said that she had been hospitalized on January 5 due to a persistent migraine attack, which made doctors recommend a series of tests.

According to Sobed (Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy), adenocarcinoma is a malignant tumor that can affect various segments of the digestive tract, including the large intestine. It usually appears as a small polyp that in about ten years grows in size and evolves into adenocarcinoma.
